    I'm an audio and PC guy working in the industry. My only recommended upgrades to this would be a more airflow focused case, which will allow for more air with lower fan speeds (and noise). Noctua or BeQuiet fans (preferably 4pin). Motherboard features are user specific, but a lot of audio people will want thunderbolt and or 2.5G networking for that NAS, maybe USB-C or built in WiFi/Bluetooth. SATA is fine for Audio, but if you're sampling, or using Kontakt etc you wont yet see a benefit from NVMe's, but project loading time will be reduced. DDR5 is the biggest upgrade for Audio production. CPU wise, you want the most P cores, and hyperthreading enabled or disabled depending on plugins and workload. Overall, this is the best time ever to built an Audio production PC.

    • @ZachWirchak
      @ZachWirchak 47 минут назад

      That is solid advice/tips! My initial plan was to upgrade the fans, but after spending time a lot with the machine the socket and core temps are well within the normal operating range even when I'm running a big 100+ track project. The location of the tower also cuts down on any fan noise (which is pretty minimal) too. I know it only helps a tiny bit, but I also work in a room that never sees temps over 75 degrees even in 100 degree weather outside. I do a lot of work with samples and Kontakt every day and the NVMe's have been a noticeable upgrade from my previous SSDs that I ran the OS, plugins, software, ect from. My NAS is really just for my archival work. And I recently hard wired my entire setup so now backing up to the NAS is lightning fast which has been a great upgrade. DDR5 I was very torn about... I read and watched benchmark video that it wasn't making a large difference in audio production yet and the prices (at the time of building) where much higher than DDR4. I'm usually someone who likes to future proof my investments, but I also wanted to keep the build under/around $1200. So I stuck with DDR4 and I'm hoping I won't regret it as time marches on... but if I do, it's an excuse to build another machine!

    I have this cpu with 32 gb of ram but have issues with fl vocal recording with minimal plug ins. Compared to my Mac with an old i5 and 8 gb of ram I can run that thing with 10+ tracks most with heavy processing. Sadly I can’t do this with this cpu I’m hoping it’s fl 😭 I tried a lot of different buffer rates and still a slight delay

      Oh wow! I wonder if there is an option deep somewhere in the project settings that can improve performance. I'm not very familiar with FL, but I know if Cubase there are something you can change based on your CPU to improve the performance.

    I've been doing this with MT Power Drums. I can channel each element to a different track and work that way, but I prefer to export them as wav files and drop them back in. I could set the output of the midi track as the input of a blank track and hit record, but I just solo the drum track and export the mix in real time for each component. Time consuming, but I'm just sitting back doing something else in between hitting solo and export so it's not a hassle. It means I can add a little compression or saturation, high pass etc when exporting to save on CPU later. I put plugins on tracks and export them as a means of committing, but also saving lots of CPU over a whole mix. You can always go back a step or to the raw track if you really need to. Back to drums, I'll put effects on the snare on a duplicate mono track and export it as a stereo wav file rather than use a send as then, the DAW is just playing a wav file instead of running plugins. You want to leave some things until later so you can tweak them as you go, but the basic "set and forget" plugin chain might as well be out of the way. Good to see I wasn't the only one exporting midi this way!

    • @ZachWirchak
      @ZachWirchak Месяц назад

      @@Dave-Rough-Diamond-Dunn I recently started setting up my projects so each midi drum is assigned to a fader, that I can then tweet 100% independently. That has changed the game for me. I did a video on it earlier this year.

Let's say you have the original midi track and now you just want to use how it's written but you wanna assign different sample from your DAW to each of the drum. Meaning you use the original program (drum plug-in) to write the parts but then you use the DAW drum samples for the actual sounds (instead of just mixing sounds that the plug-in created)..? I have one of these and a Behringer umc1820, both with ADAT Behringer ada8200 giving me 32 preamps total. I’ve tested noise, preamp gain, latency. The Behringer is dollar for dollar the better value. Other than a few tiny bells and whistles the scarlett has over it, I’d still pick the UMC 1820 over it any day. Btw to mac owners that want to add inputs but don’t want to jump into the pro audio realm of price to do so, you can buy as many units as you want and keep adding them using usb. A Mac will create aggregate devices for you so it pairs the clocks of all of your interfaces to your Mac’s interface. Some people say that the clocks aren’t as good through your Mac vs having a good dedicated word clock, but let’s face it. If I can make Money mixing and mastering with this and the outcome be unrecognizable from higher end gear, you can use these for whatever you want. The preamps aren’t colored. They are transparent as well as the converters. Which is great! Because I can’t afford 10 units of real 1173 preamps and burl converters. So for now these units are my lifeblood. Nobody including the mastering engineers I’ve worked with have ever said “that master you did would sound better if you stopped using that cheap interface” Same goes for microphones. I’ve used $15 Bluetooth clip on mics for pro production that people didn’t know weren’t my super expensive condenser mics. Learn how to use it will, make sure there’s no extra noise and go make music instead of reading about gear you have, want, or had. Gear doesn’t write songs. Songs don’t build gear. Therefor owning gear won’t help you write songs. They can help you feel creative. But won’t write you a good song.

      Hell no. Behringer is garbage. I could never ever figure out the dumb ass mix knob. Turned all the way to the left would only hear half nice and daw audio, turned all the way to the right i would hear the other half of the mics. In the middle both but still not perfect. Seriously irritating!!! Nothing in the mix control or DAW. Could never figure that piece of junk out.

      @@DALTRON666 lol. Sounds like operator error. Mix should be full right unless you want live monitoring. Easy as that.

    Maybe its your guitar or other system.This pedal sounds great .I have been playing for almost 30 years and i use this pedal connected directly to audio interface for recording sometimes and add some rev and eq when needed. I also have amplitude 4 and a real twin I. bet you can't tell the if itsn a real tube or not when recorded.Most of my musician friends can't (who actually play real tubes ) Its an amp modeller,not a overdrive/ distortion pedal.youre not supposed to connect it to a fractal nor another amp modeller. Checkout my short i used it there with a little rev , connect to an audio interface directly to a reaper Daw with a touch of no name free vst classoc reverb ,out to samson monitor and capture the vid and sound with a cheap android phone.And a cheap(by your standard )Mexican strat with alnico V stock pup.

    @Zach how good is the conversion? I found a great deal for a 3rd gen 18i20. I’ll be running a 73 style pre through it for rap vocals.

      That should work great! I use a WA73 in front of my 18i20 and the 2 work great together. I mostly track vocals, voice overs, guitar and bass. And I have zero complaints!

    One thing I think people need to give focusrite more credit for is how rock solid their stuff is. I’ve been using a focusrite 18i20 for years now and have never had a single issue with it. It always works and never glitches , and that is pretty impressive
